What is DNS?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is the phonebook of the Internet. When you type a domain name like google.com into your browser, DNS translates it into an IP address like 142.250.80.46 that computers use to identify each other on the network.

Common DNS Record Types

• A Record — Maps a domain to an IPv4 address (e.g. 142.250.80.46)
• AAAA Record — Maps a domain to an IPv6 address (e.g. 2607:f8b0:4004::200e)
• CNAME Record — Alias of one domain to another (e.g. www.example.com → example.com)
• MX Record — Specifies mail servers responsible for receiving email for the domain
• NS Record — Lists the authoritative name servers for the domain
• TXT Record — Stores text data, commonly used for SPF, DKIM, and domain verification
• SOA Record — Start of Authority, contains administrative information about the zone

How does this tool work?

This tool queries Google Public DNS (dns.google) over HTTPS for each record type. Your domain name is never stored or logged — the lookup happens directly between your browser and Google's DNS servers.
